In the aloha spirit that Duke Kahanamoku introduced surfing to others, AccesSurf was
created to share adaptive surfing and swimming with anyone who has the desire to
experience the ocean. AccesSurf is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides
beach access and therapeutic ocean activities such as surfing, swimming, snorkeling
and shoreline flotation to kids and adults with any type of disability. AccesSurf
invites everyone to enjoy a "Day at the Beach" together as an 'ohana (family) in a
safe and barrier free environment.
We Need Your Help!
AccesSurf has just been presented with a challenge opportunity by the Omidyar Fund
at the Hawaii Community Foundation. If AccesSurf can raise $25,000 by August 31,
2009, the Omidyars will match dollar for dollar, all monies raised up to $25,000!
Please help AccesSurf reach its challenge grant goal by making a contribution today.
Your donation will:
* Help to purchase the needed equipment to continue and expand its "Day at the Beach"
program. Equipment needs include: 100-foot beach paths, adaptive beach wheelchairs,
adaptive surfboards with modifications, specialized beach and ocean flotation
devices, life jackets, rash guards and more.
* Help to expand its program and services to an additional location in
Honolulu, thus allowing both local residents and visitors to access the beach and
ocean in a convenient location on a regular basis.
* Help to implement a new program that partners with Hawaii's military bases
to offer a specialized program for veterans that have been wounded while serving our
country.
* Help AccesSurf to begin the expansion of its programs to Maui County.
